They have invested across multiple facets of the global natural resource industry, including the upstream and midstream segments.
EMG targets equity investments of $150 million to $1,000 million in the energy and minerals sectors with talented, experienced management teams such as Lodestar Energy Group. They are focused on hard assets that are integral to existing and growing markets.

Brad Howell is the President and CEO of Lodestar Energy Group and sets the strategic direction for its activities. Mr. Howell is also the founder of Lodestar Logistics Corporation, a provider of rail logistics services to Fortune 100 companies. Brad also held leadership positions within the operating units of the Howell Corporation. He received a MBA from the University of Houston and a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
Jerry James leads the commercial team for Lodestar Energy. With over 30 years logistics and supply chain managerial experience in the hydrocarbons industry and leadership positions in several industry associations trade groups, Jerry has developed numerous commercial structures for projects and initiatives. Jerry holds a MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado and a BA in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Denver.
Jeff Hemmer leads our business development activities. With over 25 years with ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell, Jeff strategically worked his way through nearly every functional area, including international assignments. He served in numerous executive positions, overseeing global supply chain, and a business unit. Additional key leadership roles included merger integration, corporate business process improvement, global process technology, engineering & licensing, and operations management. Jeff holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Purdue, earning status as a Distinguished Engineering Alumni in 2009.
Alan Birney brings a breadth of commercial and logistics experience to the Lodestar Energy business development team. He has held multiple sales and supply chain positions within the petrochemical industry and provided process improvement and sales force effectiveness consulting services across multiple industries. Prior to joining Lodestar, Alan had several general and commercial leadership roles with a global marine terminal company. Alan holds a BA in Computer Science and Psychology from Duke University and an MBA in Finance and Operations Management from Purdue University.
